You Learn Something Every Day . . .

So last Sunday when we were playing in Dave's campaign, we were joking about a shark encounter in a river.  Turns out, according to the Discovery Channel, Australia has a breed of shark called the Bull Shark that can tolerate fresh water and actually hunts in rivers from time to time.  Go figure.

There's also the river sharks

There's also the river sharks of family Glyphis, which mostly occur in and around Australia and SE Asia. They apparently live their whole lives in fresh water. They get to be around 2 meters in length.

I don't know if the show you

I don't know if you guys watch the show "Monster Quest" on the History channel or not, but the October 29th episode of Monster Quest was titled "Jaws in Illinois" and was about the Bull Sharks coming all the way up the Mississippi River to Illinois.

Yeah, I know, I feel so shame for loving this show, but it did show that Bull Shark's had been caught in rivers in Illinois, as well as Lake Michigan off of Chicago...

That's it . . . no more

That's it . . . no more swimming in rivers.  Wait . . . I can't swim anyway.  I'm telling you, one step away from Land Sharks . . .

After watching that show, I'm

After watching that show, I'm rethinking my longtime desire to visit Australia.  Not only did they have bull sharks, but they had more potentially deadly things per square inch that continent than I can comfortably reconcile without lossing SAN.
