MtG: Vintage Tourney (Unsanctioned)

GopherDave's picture

Local MtG Luminary, Chris Breymeyer (aka BreyFunk) wants to play some Vintage Magic, and is inviting y'all to join in the fun!

  • Format: Vintage (Unsanctioned)
  • Entry fee is $10. Each entrant is allowed up to 10 proxies with their entry to the event, and can purchase additional proxies for $0.25/proxy with entry fee up to 25 proxies.
  • Tournament will have a number of swiss rounds depending on number of participants, prizes to be given after swiss rounds (no top 8).
  • Decklists are required and any proxies must be clearly indicated on said decklists (example:  if you are playing 4 Underground Sea and are proxying three of them, you will write "4 Underground Sea-3 Proxy).

PROXIES

There are two types of acceptable proxies. The first and most basic is taking a basic land card and writing the details of the card on it. The second method is to take a card that shares some of the characteristics with the card that is being proxied and erase any characteristics that do not match, replacing them with the correct characteristics.

All proxies must have the following text neatly printed, using a sharpie. Ball point pens may not be used:

  • The full name of the card (no abbreviations or nicknames).
  • Correct casting cost of the card including all colored mana symbols.
  • All relevant/game affecting text.

PRIZES

  • 1st Place: Demonic Tutor (Alpha) (Condition: VERY Played, but still very recognizable for what it is)
  • Prizes for 2nd onward (through top half of the field, round down) will be awarded booster packs of Scars of Mirrodin, allocated based on the number of players there are for the tournament. Each players entry beyond the fourth will contribute two booster packs to this prize pool.
  • Additional door prizes will also be given away. These items may very whatever BreyFunk and GopherDave manage to scrounge up.

Dan Mayo signing up for the tournament. I'll be driving up from Saint Louis on Saturday morning...my eventual destination is Bloomington, Indiana, but a vintage tourney is enough to make me take a slight detour!

Get your Leylines ready

Get your Leylines ready people, cause I just got word Steve Mohrbacher is coming down all the way from Savannah, Georgia to play in this, and he's bringing Dredge! Ok, so he's really just coming home for Winter break, but he's playing. -Breyfunk

Well darn. I should have figured running this on thanksgiving weekend would exclude some people from it. I want to run Vintage events (legacy too, but vintage is my personal favorite). Keep your eyes on this site for more details. Dave, please sign Kevin Morris, Matt Strauss and James Manrique up. -Breyfunk

I'd definitely be up for

I'd definitely be up for regular vintage events (and also legacy). I travel a lot on the weekends though but I'll try to keep my schedule open if there's a big tournament. Do people play vintage/legacy on Tues nights? I tore my rotator so I'll be free on Tues for a while. I'll stop by next week if people want to playtest. -Colin Wu

This is good to see. I'm a big vintage/legacy fan and recently moved to the area. I'm out of town that weekend for Thanksgiving and won't be able to participate. Hope to see more of these in the future.
