GopherDave's picture

Hey all...

Armored Gopher Games is now working on getting Friday Night Magic sanctioning!!!

To get Friday Night Magic into Armored Gopher Games, we have to hold a number of events that garner at least 30 unique DCI/WPN numbers in a four month period. That march begins tonight with our first officially sanctioned event!

Tonight's event is a booster draft using cards from the Alara Block (Shards of Alara, Conflux, and Alara Reborn) for drafting.

Details

  • The cost for this event will be $14.00.
  • Prize support will be packs of Zendikar, divided out based on the number of players there are.
  • Players keep what they draft.
  • The format will be multi-round Swiss-style. There will be no single-elimination drafts here at the Gopher. EVER.
  • WPN Event Sactioning Number: 10-01-2162695

Beyond that... leave a comment below to officially sign up.

On Saturday, January 16rd, Armored Gopher Games will be hosting a Peasant Magic tournament.  The Starting time is 1:00pm.

We had 14 players in December.  Let's keep the momentum of fun magic in CU going!

Fun!

What is Peasant Magic???

  • Peasant Magic is a fun format that anyone can build a deck for, at minimal cost.
  • A Peasant Magic deck can have NO rare cards.
  • A Peasant Magic deck can have only 5 uncommon cards.
  • Every other card in the (60 card minimum) deck must be a common.
  • Alpha through Zendikar - If the card has a white border, or a black border - and it has a standard Magic:The Gathering back, you can play it.

How do I know what is common or uncommon???

  • If the card has ever been printed as a common, you can count it as a common.
  • If the card has never been printed as a common, but has been printed as an uncommon, you can count it as an uncommon.
  • Look at the Gatherer website (http:/gatherer.wizards.com) to see what rarity the card has been printed at.

What do I need to bring???

  • A deck
  • A way to keep track of life totals (pencil and paper, small rocks, really solid boogers)
  • A decklist.

What's a decklist???

  • A decklist is a piece of paper that has a listing of all the cards that you are playing in your deck.  On this decklist, you need to have your name, and you need to indicate which of the cards in your deck are UNCOMMON.  Remember - NO RARES, AND ONLY 5 UNCOMMON CARDS.

How much does it cost to enter???

MtG: BreyDraft!

"15 Years of Magic in one draft!"

The Breydraft, an event that hasn't taken place in almost 2 years, is back.  Join us December 5th at Armored Gopher Games and draft vitrually every set from Ice Age to Zendikar.  Below are the specifics for this event:

-Each player will select 4 packs rotissirie style as their draft packs, yes, we will be doing a 4 pack draft instead of a standard 3 pack draft, this assists in deckbuilding since the boosters aren't meant to be drafted together.

-Seating is limited to 12 players (one of which is occupied already by me)

-Entry fee to this event is $20

-Prize support for this event will be via a backdraft of the cards drafted, which includes any Rares and Mythic Rares, Foils, Priceless Treasures, and anyUncommons and Commons that are worth more than $4 (I will have a list of these at the event that can be viewed before and during drafting).  If this event has a full 12 people, I will put a Collector's Edition Regrowth into the Backdraft pool.  Reguardless of attendance, I will be purchasing additional boosters from Armored Gopher as prize support also.

I hope you can make it out and draft some classic magic with us.  If you have any questions please contact me at either 217 249-3021 or by email breyfunk@gmail.com.  Hope to see you at the event

- Chris Breymeyer

Interest in Magic: the Gathering

embermage34's picture

Hi all!

This is my official search post to find others that frequent Armored Gopher who share interest in playing Magic: the Gathering.

I have talked with Dave about running more formal events such as constructed tournaments, drafts, and other events in the future, however due to the fact I know virtually nobody that plays at the Gopher I'm at kind of a loss of where to start, so I figure I may as well start at the beginning.  I'd love to talk with others who love playing the game for the game's sake, as it is one of my major passions.  Basically I'd like to see who all would be interested in my setting up a regular Magic casual play night (I'll talk with you about which night would be best for this next time i come in Dave).  During this night everyone interested would come in with whatever decks they think would be great for a fun casual night of gaming.  Also we can have themed nights where we could do Cube Drafts, EDH, Type 4(gonna start making a deck for the format), and any other formats people would have fun with.

Also those with interest in more competitive formats please let me know as well, as I plan to work with Dave in the formation of regular tournaments in the future!

Thanks!

Austin Warner

Big Changes in Magic Rules

joeshill's picture

In case anyone missed it, WOTC announced big big changes in the rules for Magic:The Gathering.

http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/42a   Damage no longer goes on the stack.   In play is now "on the battlefield".  Removed from game is now "exiled".   I suspect lots of things will get broken before they sort out ramifications.   They don't know how they are working banding yet.     Morphling got castrated.  (You can either pump his power, or his toughness, but since there is no "damage on the stack", you can't pump his power, then once damage is on the stack, pump his toughness.
